It’s a big year for WNBA star A’ja Wilson, who just earned the league’s MVP honor for the fifth time in her career and achieved the first three-peat in the award’s history. Not to mention, the second generation of her signature shoe, the Nike A’Two, came out this year.

The Last Vegas Aces center accepted the 2026 WNBA MVP award on Thursday at Michelob ULTRA Arena, her team’s arena. (They are currently 0-2 in the semifinals against the Golden State Valkyries in a best-of-five series.) She dressed up for the occasion in a red satin suit featuring a sharp double-breasted blazer and creased pants. But this was far from her only fashionable moment this year, which has included looks ranging from a custom gown at the Met Gala to on-court sneakers with special meaning.

Ahead of the playoffs, Wilson dressed up for a September home game against the Los Angeles Sparks in a look featuring a Nike Club Rules Oxford shirt which reinvents the country club aesthetic with a loose fit and bold graphic. She paired the shirt with a pleated skirt and kept the preppy aesthetic going with black and white penny loafers and socks.

In a September home game against the Seattle Storm, Wilson wore the Nike A’Two “Ride at DA’wn” sneakers, a special-edition colorway of her signature shoe which pays tribute to coach and former player Dawn Staley, a key figure in Wilson’s life who coached her during her college career at the University of South Carolina. The shoe pays homage to Staley’s iconic 1999 Zoom S5 with her signature logo and a distinctive colorway.

Wilson had a glamorous all-black moment at this year’s WNBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago. She paired classic pointed-toe pumps with a strapless embellished dress featuring a fitted bodice and sheer skirt. A pair of sheer gloves added to the elegance of the look.

Wilson made her Met Gala debut this year and got ready with WWD for the occasion. She wore a custom gilded atelier Prabal Gurung gown, a strapless piece with a column fit and cape sleeves; the gold theme reached beyond the gown itself as she wore matching shoes and even displayed gold-dipped hands.

Asics and Kiko Kostadinov Release Second Version of Popular Tabi Sneaker

Asics, Kiko Kostadinov, Lyasa FF II, collaboration, sneaker, shoes, footwear, tabis, tabi sneakers, Kiko

The Kiko Kostadinov x Asics Lyasa FF II shoe.

Asics SportStyle and Kiko Kostadinov are back together again, this time with their second tabi silhouette.

Designed by Kiko Kostadinov’s Laura and Deanna Fanning, the new Lyasa FF II shoe model arrives in two colorways — Clay Grey/Jasper Green and Reddish Brown/Asics Blue — and merges the language of a brogue at the front with the structure of a trail shoe at the back.

First seen on the runway in 2025, the Lyasa FF II shoe builds on a series inspired by the split-toe Asics footwear developed for astronauts participating in a space training program in 2008. While retaining the distinctive tabi construction of its archival reference, the collaborative series introduces thicker bases and more substantial proportions to create a new expression.

For this fourth iteration, Laura and Deanna Fanning looked to archival Asics models featuring leather uppers, combining their formal qualities with technical details drawn from outdoor footwear. Brogue-inspired detailing gives the forefoot a more crafted and traditional appearance, while the trail-informed rear construction introduces a sense of utility.

The Lyasa FF II shoe is produced using a specially selected leather that develops natural variations across its surface. Differences in wrinkling, color, markings, grain and veining are inherent characteristics of the material, making each pair subtly unique without affecting its quality or performance.

The Kiko Kostadinov x Asics Lyasa FF II shoe, which retails for $230, is now available on both brand’s respective websites.

This latest project marks nearly a decade of collaboration between the Bulgarian fashion brand and the Japanese sportswear company. In February, the duo released the first iteration of the Lyasa FF shoe.

Kiko Kostadinov isn’t Asics’ only collaborator. Indeed, last month saw the release of Asics’ newest shoes with Amsterdam-based brand Camiel Fortgens. The project featured two updated takes of the Asics Gel-Cumulus 16 sneaker, realized in a mary jane-inspired style and a Velcro silhouette.

In August, Asics North America reported another strong quarter. According to the company, the U.S. saw sales grow 19.4 percent in the second quarter, while Canada was up 25.8 percent and Mexico jumped 30.4 percent.

The SportStyle category sustained its impressive growth posting a 77.6 percent sales increase in the quarter versus the same period last year and posted a notable 95.7 percent increase in the wholesale channel across all categories, including boutique and athletic specialty/sporting goods. The Gel-1130 and Gel-NYC footwear models produced triple-digit growth for the second consecutive quarter and were supported by strong sales of the Gel-Cumulus 16 shoe.

The Sneaker Resale Market Had a Sluggish September, But October Could Be More Promising

Caitlin Clark 1 October launch/Mind 002 September launch

The Caitlin Clark 1 basketball sneaker is doing well in October’s collectible resale market, while the Mind 002 launch in September was a highlight for last month’s resale tally for Nike.

The sneaker resale market is feeling the impact of a broader sneaker slowdown.

Despite 30 product launches in September, only 13 sneakers sold out in the primary channels and traded at premiums in the secondary market on resale platforms such as StockX and GOAT, according to Needham analyst Tom Nikic. He describes sneakers selling out in the primary channels that trade at premiums in the secondary collectibles resale market as “high-heat” products.

The average resale premium was 27 percent. Nike had nine sneakers on September’s high-heat list, with its Air Max 1000 “Stone Burgundy Crush” garnering the highest resale premium at 56 percent. The sneaker sold at $180 in the primary channel and then jump to $280 at resale. The Swoosh had two other sneakers that garnered a 43 percent premium, the Book 2 “Detroit Lions,” at $222 at resale from $155 in the primary channel, and the Air Max 90 x Wagyu “Black and Anthracite, at $215 at resale from $150 in the primary channel.

Joining Nike with a 43 percent premium was the Adistar 5 “Larry June” from Adidas, with a resale price of $228 and a primary channel price tag of $160. Vans made the premium list with its Pearlized Old Skool “Yacht Club,” at $160 in the resale market representing a 23 percent premium, up from $130 in the primary channel.

Also doing well is the Mind franchise, which remains a bright spot for Nike, with release volume relatively low. The new colorway for Mind 002 that launched in September, “Fossil Stone and Plum Eclipse,” sold out quickly and is trading at premiums in the resale market, around $175 versus the original launch price or $145.

The overall resale market was down from a year ago, which saw significant premium highlights from Nike. A year ago, Swoosh’s Mars Yard Shoe 3.0 commanded a 282 percent premium, with resale at $1,051 from $275 at launch. Making the list was also the Converse Shai 001 “Butter,” commanding a 160 percent premium to $338 at resale from $130 at launch. And then there was the Air Max 95 Yu-Gi-Oh pack in multiple colorways, with a 126 percent premium to $451 from $200 at launch.

The Needham analyst’s Monthly Sneaker-launch Tracker also found that the 13 sold out in primary channels last month were down from 19 high-heat launches in September 2025, and way below the 30+ high-heat launches from 2021 to 2022.

“Also, of the seven retro Jordans launches in September, six are trading at discounts in the resale market, reflecting subdued demand for this struggling franchise,” Nikic noted in a research note on Friday.

The Jordan 6 Women’s Low “Metamorphosis” saw the highest decline percentage-wise, down 47 percent at resale to $109 from $205 at launch. That was followed by the Jordan 7 “Tennis Day,” down 40 percent to $128 from $215.

The Needham analyst is optimistic about the October resale market. “On the bright side, the month is off to a decent start, with six successfull launches month-to-date, including a new Nike Mind colorway and the debut of the new Caitlin Clark basketball sneaker,” he noted.

The Caitlin 1 that launched on Oct. 1 thus far is trading at a 27 percent premium at resale at $178 from $140. And Jordan Brand launched its Jordan 1 Low “Howard University” on Oct. 1, which is commanding a resale premium of 41 percent to $218 from the launch price of $155.

Thus far, Nikic said there are 27 potential high-heat sneaker launches slated for the month. “This would be an increase from the 21 high-heat launches in October 2025,” he noted. Nineteen launches are slated from Nike, four from Adidas, two from Vans, and one each from New Balance and Puma.

The analyst did caution that in recent months, results from the launches have been mixed, with some sneakers selling quickly and other styles sitting on shelves for a long time.
